PETERSBURG, VIRGINIACity of Petersburg residents will notice some changes with their curbside recycling in the coming days.

Collection schedules will change beginning Monday, July 8.

Residents can look up their new recycling day by entering their address in the Customer Portal at CVWMA.com.

They should also watch the mail for a postcard announcing their day.

Recycling will still be picked up every other week, with some addresses in Old Towne receiving weekly service.

New contractor

CVWMA has contracted with TFC Recycling to service the city. All recyclables will be processed at TFC’s facility in Chester. Residents will see the company’s trucks in their neighborhoods.

Virginia-based TFC is already under contract with CVWMA to collect and process residential recycling in seven other jurisdictions.

Recycle right

In Petersburg, the all-green container is for recycling.

CVWMA urges everyone to recycle right by placing accepted items only in their containers.

Accepted items are aluminum and steel cans, paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, and cartons (such as soup, half-and-half, or juice boxes).

Plastic bags, food and trash should never go in the recycling cart. Trash and non-accepted items can contaminate an entire batch of recycling, undermining efforts to recycle right.

More information is available at CVWMA.com/recycle-right.

Trash collection

CVWMA’s contract with Meridian Waste to collect residential trash in the City of Petersburg expires June 30. After that time, CVWMA will not be able to assist Petersburg residents with missed trash collections or requests for new trash cans.

CVWMA continues to coordinate trash collection in the Town of Ashland, City of Colonial Heights and City of Hopewell.
