There’s a new compost collection in town.
Residents of Chesterfield, Henrico and Richmond can compost food scraps and other compostable products at drop-off sites through a partnership with CVWMA.
The partnership expands existing compost drop-offs in Henrico and Richmond. In Chesterfield, the drop-off program is brand new.
Food scraps and compostables can go in the new purple cart. Purple carts are located at convenience centers, public use areas, community gardens and other spots. These carts are serviced weekly by local NOPE Compost Co.
What to compost
- All food scraps (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, eggshells, bread, etc.)
- Food-soiled paper products (napkins, paper towels, coffee filters and tea bags)
- Certified compostable products (utensils, plates, cups)
Item must display one of these certifications: BPI Compostable, Compost Manufacturing Alliance, OK Compost (TUV) or Din Certo (seedling logo)
No plastic bags, plastic bottles, straws, pet waste, pizza boxes or diapers.
