Hanover County
In spring 2023, each single-family home that participates in CVWMA’s curbside recycling program will receive a 95-gallon recycling cart.
Carts will be delivered during a six-week period beginning May 15. There is no separate fee for the cart.
Residents should begin using the cart as soon as they receive it. Going forward, it will be the only container permitted for recycling collection at single-family homes. All material must fit inside the cart (even flattened cardboard boxes).
Households that already have a cart will receive a second one, unless the resident notifies CVWMA.
Already have a CVWMA cart? Tell us if you don’t want the second one.
Click the button below to notify us that you do not wish to have a second cart. Use this form only if you haven’t received the new cart yet. Remember: You may need a second cart for overflow recycling.
Benefits of the Cart
Many Hanover residents have been recycling with CVWMA 24-gallon handheld bins. The new cart can hold nearly 4x more than the bin — this means more recycling per household! Carts have two wheels for easy maneuvering and a lid to keep everything inside and dry.
Recycling trucks will use an automated arm to empty the carts. The driver doesn’t need to leave the truck. This is a safer and more effective way of collecting recycling.
New Rules for Curbside Collection
Beginning July 1, all recyclables must be placed inside the CVWMA cart. Material placed beside the cart will not be collected. This includes cardboard boxes.
Bins and personal containers will no longer be collected in the CVWMA program, with the exception of townhouses and condominiums (these households will continue to use bins).
Residents who wish to recycle their old CVWMA bins may drop them off at the Elmont, Mechanicsville or Courthouse convenience centers.
Hanover subdivisions listed here are eligible for CVWMA curbside recycling.
