City of Petersburg
CVWMA partners with the City of Petersburg to provide waste management programs such as weekly trash collection and twice monthly recycling collection.
Homes and many business are provided a 95-gallon trash cart (burgundy with yellow lid).*
Trash is collected in most areas on Thursdays or Fridays (look up your exact day with the CVWMA web tool).
In Old Towne, trash is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Collection begins at 7 a.m.
*CVWMA serves multi-family developments with four or fewer units.
Bulky waste includes items such as mattresses, furniture, yard waste, appliances and items too large to fit in the trash cart.
Bulky waste is collected the same day as trash.
Petersburg Bulky Waste Requirements
- Bulky waste loads are limited to 10 cubic yards.
- Limbs longer than 6 feet cannot be collected.
- Logs weighing more than 60 pounds cannot be collected.

Recycling collection occurs every other Wednesday (Red or Blue weeks). Some Old Towne addresses are collected each Wednesday. Use the CVWMA web tool to look up your exact day.
Make sure your recycling is out by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

× Sheets or balls of aluminum foil

Effective June 14, 2022, the recycling drop-off at South Crater Square Shopping Center is closed.
CVWMA partners with Petersburg on electronics recycling. Electronics must be recycled through reputable recycling vendors or special community events only.
CVWMA contractor Securis holds an electronics recycling event on the first Saturday of each month at 8419 Glazebrook Ave., Henrico. The event is open to all residents of Central Virginia. Fees apply. For more information, see the calendar of events.
Never place electronics or batteries in curbside or drop-off recycling containers.
Adopt-A-Spot and Adopt-A-Street. Both programs engage residents in regular cleanup activities. Learn more at the city’s website.
