FAQs

When will I get my new trash cart?

One new trash cart per home will be delivered between June 20-29. If you have more than one cart now, a maximum of two will be delivered. If you need more than two carts, there will be a fee.
Try out this new larger size before ordering an extra one! This cart is larger than the existing carts and holds 40% more trash.

What do I do with the old trash cart(s)?

Following the June 29 trash collection, leave your old carts at the curb for removal. If not removed by July 8, contact CVWMA 804-340-0900.

Beginning in July, trash will NOT be collected from maroon and orange carts or from any other container, except your gray cart.

Is my trash day changing?

No. Trash day will remain on Wednesdays. However, the first collection with new gray carts will take place Thursday, July 7, due to the Fourth of July holiday.

Where and how do I place my new cart for collection?

Trash collection by WM will be automated. Trucks feature a mechanical arm that will pick up and empty your cart.

Because of this automated system, do not park vehicles within 3 feet of your cart. Likewise, do not place carts within 3 feet of your trash cart.

What about items that don’t fit in the cart?

Items that don’t fit inside your cart are considered bulky waste. This includes furniture, mattresses and box springs, appliances, brush and yard waste, and extra bags of trash.

Beginning July 1, requests for bulky waste collection must be made by 2 p.m. on Tuesdays. Requests made after this deadline will be fulfilled the following week.

A bulky waste collection is limited to what can fit in the bed of a full-size pickup truck. Loads larger than that will be considered special bulky waste and cost $125 to remove.

Brush must be tied in bundles no more than 4 feet long and weighing less than 75 pounds.
