Paper Cups and Pizza Boxes OK for CVWMA Recycling

Paper cups and cardboard pizza boxes are now accepted in the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority curbside and drop-off recycling programs.
These materials can be recycled locally as long as some care is taken before they go in the recycling container.

How to Recycle Paper Cups
Paper cups typically found in the food service industry are accepted. These include coffee cups and fountain drink cups with poly coating. All cups should be empty before recycling. No lids or straws are accepted.
Paper cups are made from fiber that is a desirable material for paper recycling mills. However, not all mills are able to separate the plastic coating found on cups that is used to prevent liquid from leaking out or soaking through the paper. The good news is that a growing number of mills can accept and process poly-coated cups when included in existing bales such as Sorted Office Paper, Residential Mixed Paper and Cartons.
How to Recycle Pizza Boxes
Pizza boxes can be recycled into new boxes. Grease on the box is not a problem. However, stuck-on cheese, crumbs and leftover crust are problems, as are the waxy liners that come in some boxes. Empty the box, then recycle.
