Recycle That Tree! Localities Offer Recycling for Real Christmas Trees
December 19, 2025 |

Trees are chipped at the City of Richmond’s annual “Bring One for the Chipper” real Christmas tree recycling event.
RICHMOND, VA — One of the ultimate ways to “go green” at the holidays is to recycle a real Christmas tree.
Many CVWMA member localities are offering this service at no charge to their residents.
A list of sites is posted at https://cvwma.com/christmas-tree-recycling. Programs are open only to residents of the sponsoring locality.
All trees must be free of ornaments, lights, tinsel and stands.
Recycled trees are ground into a mulch-type product that can be applied to the landscape.
Real Christmas trees can also be placed outside as wildlife habitat.
Richmonders can ‘Bring One for the Chipper’
City of Richmond residents can recycle their Christmas trees and more at the city’s Bring One for the Chipper event Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at 1710 Robin Hood Road. Real Christmas trees, personal documents and electronics can be dropped off for recycling. City of Richmond ID required.
Fees apply to recycle some electronics.
