Richmond, VA – Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
CVWMA, a cooperative government agency that coordinates recycling and other waste management programs with thirteen area local governments, compiles the annual financial report and submits the CAFR information to the Government Finance Officers Association.
An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the individual(s), department, or agency designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. This has been presented to Kimberly A. Hynes, Executive Director of the CVWMA.
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. This is the 24th consecutive year that the CVWMA has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a major professional association servicing the needs of over 21,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
