Emily Herr Bio

Muralist Emily Herr Completes CVWMA Project

Emily Herr is a Richmond, Virginia native who creates custom hand-painted murals at home and on the road under the name HerrSuite. She’s been painting professionally for 12 years, specializing in careful context-based design with bright imagery.

Self-employed since graduation from Virginia Commonwealth University, Emily works full-time as a muralist for clients’ homes, businesses, and public spaces. She travels often for client work and to seek new landscapes and visual paradigms. Her work can be found from Bolivia to Kwajalein, and California to Connecticut.

The mural projects that shape her career are conceptually driven with strong narrative elements that call for an illustrative approach. Recent projects include a 4500 sq ft mural on a new residential development in Richmond VA. The mural’s intricate design reflects the last several decades of small industry, workshops, and studios that used to fill the neighborhood, and is based on interviews and photographs from dozens of former and current workers. Another piece in Roanoke, VA speaks to the history of transportation in the area. The 2500 sq ft design projects an imagined movement from the literal trajectory of the past through the conceptual movement of the future as a pathway traversed by over 40 figures winding their way across the wall.
