Hanover County will host a household hazardous waste collection and paper shredding event for residents on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center, 7427 Verdi Lane. This event is open to Hanover County residents only. Proof of residency required.

Paper Shredding

Residents may bring up to four boxes (10” x 12” x 18”), paper bags or an equivalent amount of documents for shredding.

Household Hazardous Waste

Liquids, aerosols and solids can be safely disposed of at no cost, with a limit of five gallons per resident, based on container size.

Accepted materials:

• Oil-based paints
• Flammables
• Organic liquids
• Aerosols
• Oxidizers, pesticides and herbicides
• Corrosive liquids
• Solids, including pool, hot tub and spa chemicals
• Household cleaners
• Muriatic acid
• Acetic acid
• Drain cleaner
• Oven cleaners, grease and rust removers, glues, mold and mildew removers
• Art and hobby supplies, including photographic chemicals
• Mercury thermometers and switches

No batteries, fluorescent tube light bulbs, explosives or radioactive materials will be accepted.
