SUMMARY:Student Event: Considering The Connection Between Our Clothes and Microplastic Pollution
DESCRIPTION:Did you know there’s a connection between fashion and microplastics? \nWhen clothing made from synthetic material is manufactured\, washed\, worn and dried\, it releases tiny plastic fibers (microfibers) into the water and air. Microfibers are one of the most abundant microplastics entering our waterways. \nCome to the Student Commons Theater for an eye-opening talk by Kaleea Korunka\, a sophomore at The College of William & Mary\, who will speak about her research on microplastics and textiles. Korunka’s talk will be followed by a panel discussion with VCU Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising Associate Professor Kimberly Guthrie. The audience will have the opportunity to engage and ask questions. There will also be door prizes and package-free snacks. Hosted by VCU student group Eco Fashion. This event is for students only.  \n
