SUMMARY:Hanover County Household Hazardous Waste & Paper Shredding Event
DESCRIPTION:Hanover County will host a special recycling event Saturday\, April 5\, 2025\, at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center\, 7427 Verdi Lane. \nHanover County residents can bring household hazardous waste for free recycling and personal information or documents to be shredded from 8 a.m. until noon. \nThis event is for Hanover County residents only (ID required). \nShredding: \nUp to four boxes (10” x 12” x 18”)\, paper bags or equal documents will also be accepted for shredding. \nHousehold Hazardous Waste: \nThere will be no charge for liquids\, aerosols and solids\, which are classified as household hazardous waste.  There is a 5-gallon limit in total which is based on container size. \nExamples of materials accepted include: \n\nOil based paints\nFlammables\nOrganic liquids\nAerosols\nOxidizers pesticides\nHerbicides\nCorrosive liquids\nSolids including pool\, hot tub\, and spa chemicals\nHousehold cleaners\nMuriatic acid\,\nAcetic acid\nDrain cleaner\nOven cleaners\, grease and rust removers\, glues\, mold\, and mildew removers\nArt and hobby supplies including photographic chemicals.\nMercury thermometers and switches\n\nNo batteries\, tube fluorescent light bulbs\, explosives or radioactive materials will be accepted. \nNo businesses will be permitted. No out-of-county materials will be accepted.

DESCRIPTION:Hanover County will host a special e-waste recycling event Saturday\, April 12\, 2025\, at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center\, at 7427 Verdi Lane. \nHanover County residents can bring electronic waste for free recycling. \nAt this event you will be able to recycle the following items: \n\nFlat screen monitors\nFlat screen televisions\nCRT (old convex style) monitors\nCRT televisions\nComputers\, tablets\, and cells phones will be accepted and shredded (hard drive only for computers) at the event.\nCell phones and tablets with internal batteries\nPrinters and battery backups\n\nAll other small electrical items (anything small with a plug)\, including microwaves\, will be accepted. Additionally\, rechargeable batteries will be accepted for recycling.  Be aware that these batteries can pose a fire hazard. Hanover County solid waste facilities have experienced numerous fires related to rechargeable batteries. \nNo appliances that contain Freon will be accepted.  Alkaline batteries or smoke detectors will not be accepted. \nThe contractor will remove e-waste from vehicles. This event is for Hanover County residents only (ID required). Businesses will not be permitted. No out-of-county materials will be accepted.
