Curbside and Drop-Off Recycling

Recycled since 1991, total  ........  632,396 tons
Recycled curbside  ...................  542,185 tons
Recycled at drop-off centers ........  90,111 tons


Since 2003, the Curbside and Drop-Off Recycling Programs have diverted more than 35,000 tons of material from local landfills annually!   In the past two years, tonnage surpassed 40,000 annually.  Curbside recycling collection totaled 33,871 tons last year (July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011) and drop-off centers collected 6,181 tons.  Way to go, Central Virginia! 

 

 

The Curbside Recycling Program (chart below with bluish bars) continues to offer the most convenient method of recycling for over 252,000 eligible households in Central Virginia.  The Drop-Off Recycling Program (bottom chart below with orange bars) provides 40 sites available to citizens in 11 CVWMA-member  jurisdictions.  Both programs collect newspaper, mixed paper, aluminum, steel, glass and plastic. 

 

Note: CVWMA program years begin on July 1 and end on June 30. The charts below reflect program information current through June 30, 2011.
