- Citywide Delivery of 96-gallon Recycling Carts Set for June 2014
Richmond, VA-The City of Hopewell is excited to announce Curbside Recycling coming soon to residents! In an effort to enhance services and to increase recycling, the City will add every-other-week curbside recycling collection services to all eligible households and businesses starting July 1, 2014. There is no cost to the resident for these curbside recycling enhancements.
“Citizens have been asking for recycling services for many years, and I am proud to have worked on bringing curbside recycling to Hopewell and helping educate citizen on the benefits of recycling” says, City Manager Mark Haley. “Providing everyone a recycling cart will make it easier for residents to recycle, and they will find they have more space in their trash cart.”
“Recycling is an important step towards making the City a cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit,” says Thomas Meadows, Chairman, Keep Hopewell Beautiful Committee.
County Waste has been selected by the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) and the City of Hopewell as the curbside recycling collection service provider to begin July 1, 2014.
Recycling collection will occur EVERY OTHER WEEK on either RED or BLUE Wednesdays beginning in July 2014. Residents will receive a collection schedule with collection day information attached to cart when delivered.
County Waste will begin distributing new recycling carts in June 2014. Each residence and business will receive 1 recycling cart.
City of Hopewell residents will be the latest to join hundreds of thousands of other curbside recyclers in Central Virginia. “One of the goals with this new program is to reduce the overall waste stream entering the landfill, and we are pleased to now provide residents and businesses with a convenient opportunity to recycle at the curb,” says Kim Hynes, Executive Director for Central Virginia Waste Management Authority.
Only the following materials are accepted for recycling and should be placed in the recycling cart: cardboard, mixed paper (including newspapers, junk mail, etc.), aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles with a #1 or #2. All other trash should be placed in your trash cart.
The City will continue its Drop-off Recycling Program at these locations:
- Cavalier Square Shopping Center
- Colonial Corner Shopping Center, 4100 Oaklawn Blvd
- Hopewell Recreation Center, 100 W. City Point Rd
- Fire Station #2, 3400 Virginia Street, near Wilmington Ave
In addition, Container First Services (CFS) has been selected by the (CVWMA) and the City of Hopewell as the new trash collection service provider to begin July 1, 2014. Trash will be collected weekly on the following days
- Residents and businesses on Mondays. NOTE: This is a change for some city residents.
- Downtown area will be on Thursdays
- Litter baskets on Mondays and Thursdays
City residents will continue to use existing trash carts. Additional carts may be purchased for $58.00. Bulky waste (such a furniture, appliances, etc.) should be placed at the curb with cart on collection day. Up to the equivalent of a ½ ton pick-up truck load will be collected. Residents are encouraged to call the Trash Collection Hotline at (804) 425-0500 prior to collection day to schedule the pickup.
Brush and yard waste (includes grass clippings, weeds, leaves, brush) must be bagged and securely tied. (Up to 30 *bags (*minimum of 0.85 mils thick, with capacity not to exceed 50 gallons size) collected at one time and this is part of ½ ton pick-up truck load limit). Limbs and brush will need to be cut to 4 feet in length and weigh less than 75 pounds.
